Do you do the R695 service that is widely offered?

Simply put NO. We feel that it is not possible to properly service a vehicle for R695. The average time spent on a service should be about 1.5 hours. A service kit would cost a couple hundred rand for a City Golf (possibly the cheapest service kit). This means that we would have to make a living on approximately R200 profit on the cheapest service, for 1.5 hours work. This does not make business sense, so the amount of time spent on the vehicle would have to be reduced to about 30 minutes. That is simply not enough time to do even a reasonable job.

What other services does Auto Cure provide?

We can do most mechanical repairs in house. We also do basic electrical work in house, including starter motor and alternator repairs. We also do clutch and brake repairs. Engine repairs and overhauls. Manual gearbox repairs and overhauls. Aftermarket engine management conversions and dyno tuning (dyno tuning not done in house, but carried out by an approved partner)

Are you a member of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation?

Yes, we have been a member of the RMI since 1996 and have been GRADED a FOUR STAR Workshop.

What does the RMI do?

The RMI is an umbrella body and watchdog of the motor industry. As members, we agree to adhere to their guidelines. The RMI also offers dispute resolution between the workshops and the clients. As members we agree to adhere to any decision taken by the RMI with regards to disputes with clients. We are pleased to say that we have never needed to make use of the dispute resolution service.

If I have a problem with my car, does Auto Cure charge for a quotation?

We try wherever possible not to charge for quotations. This is not possible on fault diagnosis, where we are required to work on the car to find the fault.

How often should I change my oil?

Regular oil should be changed every 15 000km for petrol, 10 000km for diesel. Be proactive about checking your oil once a month is good maintenance practice.

What should the tire pressure be on my car?

The tire pressure should always be set to the tire manufacturer's pressure specs. The specs can be found on the side of driver's door. Properly inflated tires will give you better fuel usage, tire wear, and overall handling of your vehicle.

How often should l check my anti-freeze?

Checking the anti-freeze as well as all other fluids is very important for proper vehicle maintenance. Once a month is good practice. Replace once a year.

How long do spark plugs last?

That really depends upon the type of spark plugs that are in your vehicle. Vehicles 15 years old or older are more likely to have standard plugs with approximate life expectancy of 15000 - 45000 for conventional type plugs. Newer vehicles are usually iridium / platinum-tipped, lasting approximately 100 000km.

How often should I change the timing belt on my car?

It's best to refer to the owner's manual for exact mileage details regarding timing belt maintenance. Timing belts are made of rubber and should be considered a regularly scheduled maintenance item. If you are unsure of the need to replace the timing belt, we recommend consulting the mechanic for a diagnosis. Additionally, some vehicles have timing chains instead of timing belts. They are not considered a maintenance item like the timing belt (as they are made of metals) and may last up to 200,000 km before needed replacement.

Will it hurt my engine if I drive my car when the check engine light is on?

It is possible but not too likely, however, you do need to get your vehicle checked out as soon as possible. You may see a decrease in performance.

What is the primary cause of tire damage?

Although there are many things that can cause tire damage, improper inflation is the main problem we see. Always keep a tire pressure gauge in your vehicle and frequently check the pressure of all tires.

How often should I change my wiper blades?

For vehicles that are parked inside, car care experts recommend that the wiper blades be replaced at least once a year or when the wiper blades start streaking, whichever comes first. On vehicles kept outside or in areas where the wipers received excessive use, change the blades tow or even three times a year is recommended for clearer vision.

Why are my brakes making noise?

If you hear a grinding or squealing sound when the pedal is applied, you probably need new brake shoes or pads. Brakes shouldn't make any noise as they operate. Even if the actual problem turns out to be something minor, the only save assumption is this one; noisy brakes are unsafe brakes. Postponing service is unsafe and could raise the cost of repairs later. If your brakes are making nose, get them inspected or serviced right away.

What can I do if my car overheats?

If you are driving at normal highway speed and the vehicle starts to overheat, turn off the air conditioner, turn on the heater and immediately pull over to the emergency lane. The odds are if the vehicle starts to overheat at highway speed, there is a problem in the cooling system such as low coolant, a clogged radiator or a broken drive belt or burst hose. It is not recommended to continue driving the vehicle, and it should be immediately towed into a cooling system specialist to diagnose the fault. A single overheating incident does not always cause additional damage, however continuing to drive the vehicle without it having it professionally checked, will almost certainly cause engine damage.
